The Journey of Independent filmmakers-The joy, the questions and the bloody frustrations

Welcome to the meanderings of two filmmakers on the beginning of the festival route for their first feature length film. The strange and wonderful workings of getting an audience to see what we spent six years making. All I can say is I'm exhausted and excited and scared and so happy we did it. But we are still doing it all alone. Yes we are passionate or (crazy) but definitely strong enough to withstand whatever comes our way. But really still going it alone. So, yes perhaps crazy. Does one really need an agent? A press agent? A sales rep? A publicist? A gutsy person who can get you in there? Get you seen? Maybe a crazy fan like Mel from Flight of the Concords to spread the love? (She would be great though by the way.)

The latest news for us is we have been accepted to The Method Fest in California. Very exciting.

We had the opening event for the announcing of the film schedule two weeks ago. It was so amazing to be there. But we soon discovered if we didn't have that serious "gutsy" person to speak for us or pipe up we were almost non existent. Thanks to my "dad" a filmmaking vet himself who came along. He actually got us in with a photographer to take our picture. By persisting. So, am I answering my own question? Do filmmakers need that person to get the buzz on?

Now as usual in the world of making films, there is another little road block that we must tackle. Our film has been scheduled at the same time as the festivals big party. What do we do with this? We are so grateful and happy to be in the festival and know that people will come. But really we have been put in the spot that is competing with their best interest: the promotion of their festival. And quite frankly they should do that. Thanks to them we are in it.
But now the question is. Do we say something? Do we try to be the "squeaky wheel" who gets the grease? Without ruining our position or seeming too upset?
Ah, the perils of going down the road less travelled. Fabulous isn't it?
